This war drama set in Russia during World War II revolves around Pavel Zubov, a school teacher, whose village became occupied by the fascists. A certain chain of events changes the way he perceives life and puts him back to reality. In this time of war, he must make an uneasy choice to either survive and adapt to the new regime or fight for his family, love, homeland, ideals and beliefs.
Director Sergei Mokritskiy’s 2nd feature, following the cinematic success of RED SNIPER released in Russia earlier this year. I Am a Teacher is the story of one man and his battle to protect his family and loved ones. An untold story of Nazi-occupied Russia, the film shows us the human story of the conflict. Shot beautifully and sympathetically told, this is a story of love and sacrifice.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Sergey Mokritskiy was born on February 18, 1961, in Polyanovka of Zhytomyr region (Ukrainian SSR).
In 1991 he finished studies at Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. From 1996 to 2002 – TV camera operator. In 2000 – co-founder of the “CHBK-Film” movie studio. From 2005 he cooperated with the “New People” film company. He is a member of Russia’s Cinematographers Union and a member of the European Federation of Cinematographers IMAGO (R.G.C.). As a director, he is known for such films as Special Group (2007), Four Ages of Love (2008), Churchill (2009), Protest Day (2012), Battle for Sevastopol (2015). As a cinematographer, he is known for the films Far Away from War (2012), Boys and Girls of “Doctor Zhivago” (2015), Bus (2008), The Goddess of Prime Time (2006) and more.
